This card could be beneficial in a control deck that aims to stall the opponent's creatures by tapping them, buying time to establish a dominant board presence. However, there are better options available such as Vedalken Mastermind which offers a similar ability without the fading mechanic, making it more reliable in the long run. While Jolting Merfolk could have situational use, it may not be the most optimal choice for competitive play.
