Bitewing Games is expanding its push into video game adaptations with board game versions of Baba Is You and Party House. The move follows Rolling Deep, inspired by Balatro, whose crowdfunding campaign alongside Eureka raised more than US$ 700,000 last summer. That figure was more than double the amount raised by any of the publisher's 12 previous crowdfunding projects. Bitewing is now bringing the strategy to two indie games already well established in the digital space.Released in 2019, Baba Is You earned recognition as a puzzle game and received several industry awards upon its debut. The title has also sold hundreds of thousands of copies on Steam alone. The tabletop version will adapt one of the most celebrated indie puzzle games of recent years. The other project is Party House, one of the standout games in UFO 50, the retro video game collection released in 2024. Jon Perry, the creator of Party House, is also designing Bitewing's board game adaptation. His track record in the hobby includes Air, Land & Sea, Spots and Hot Streak. The shift in focus comes after an intense run of releases tied to Reiner Knizia. Founded in 2020 by Nick Murray and Kyle Spackman, Bitewing built much of its identity around revisiting lesser-known games by the German designer. It published 16 Knizia games over more than five years, including Zoo Vadis, Cascadero, Cascadito, Iliad, Ichor, Silos, Ego and Orbit.Murray says the publisher has found “most, if not all” of Knizia's hidden gems that suited its catalog. Projects such as Gold Country, Eureka and Escar-GO remain, but Bitewing sees video games as a new long-term source for adaptations.
