Chaosium has launched the crowdfunding campaign for Call of Cthulhu: Old Ones Origins on Gamefound, a competitive board game in which the Great Old Ones vie for control of the cosmos. The campaign is already fully funded and runs until October 14.

Call of Cthulhu: Old Ones Origins is an enhanced reimplementation of Forbidden Stars, created by Samuel W. Bailey, one of the original game's designers. Two to four players take control of asymmetrical factions devoted to different deities from the Cthulhu Mythos.

Each faction has its own powers, requiring players to adapt their strategies as they face off against their rivals. The main objective is to break enemy seals and collect Victory Points. The number required depends on the number of players and the game length selected during setup.

Influences serve as the primary means of wielding power, with four different types tied to distinct actions. During the conflict, players conquer regions of the universe, summon monstrous servants and warp reality in their quest for supremacy. Only one faction can rule the void.

The game is recommended for players aged 14 and up and takes approximately 60 minutes per player. The campaign offers the standard edition for a contribution of US$ 94, while the deluxe edition, which includes miniatures, requires a contribution of US$ 157. The deluxe edition also grants backers an expansion exclusive to Gamefound.

Call of Cthulhu: Old Ones Origins is expected to be delivered in January 2028.
