Galactic Cruise was named Game of the Year at the Dice Tower Awards, taking home three trophies. Published by Kinson Key Games, the eurogame also won Best Strategy Game and Best Game by a First-Time Designer.

Created by TK King, Dennis Northcott and Koltin Thompson, Galactic Cruise is Kinson Key’s first major release. Its Kickstarter campaign raised more than US$ 800,000 with the support of more than 8,000 backers. The latest accolade comes three months after the game won Heavy Game of the Year at the BoardGameGeek Golden Geek Awards.

This year’s Dice Tower Awards featured a strong showing from crowdfunded games and titles published by smaller companies. These games accounted for half of the awards.

Luthier, from Paverson Games, was another highlight of the night. The game, inspired by classical music, won Best Theme, Best Production and Best Small Publisher Game. Critter Kitchen took home Best Art for Sandara Tang’s work, while 20 Strong: Tanglewoods Red won Best Solo Game. Of these projects, 20 Strong: Tanglewoods Red was the only one funded through Gamefound; the others came from Kickstarter.

Other winners included The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – Trick-Taking Game for Best Cooperative Game, FlipToons for Best Gateway Game and Magical Athlete for Best Reprint. Hot Streak won Best Party Game, Vantage took home Most Innovative Game and Tag Team was named Best Two-Player Game.

Held annually during Gen Con, the Dice Tower Awards selects winners from games released the previous year through a panel of more than 60 contributors, critics and content creators. The awards will mark their 20th anniversary in 2027.

This year, 7 Wonders Duel, Codenames and Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 were also inducted into the Dice Tower Hall of Fame.
