Railway Boom has been named Best Multiplayer Game of 2026 by the International Gamers Awards. The Arclight Games title beat a field that included The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship, Take Time and Luthier.

The game is a new edition of the Japanese release of the same name, originally published in 2022. Hisashi Hayashi designed the game, while Simone Luciani served as developer for this edition.

The win further strengthens Luciani's presence in the history of the award's multiplayer category. Over the past six years, he was also involved with the winners Barrage in 2020 and Nucleum in 2024. The designer had previously won an International Gamers Award for The Voyages of Marco Polo in 2015 alongside Daniele Tascini.

For Hayashi, the result follows Bomb Busters' Spiel des Jahres win last year. He was also nominated for the IGA multiplayer award with Bomb Busters in the previous edition, but Tomáš Holek's SETI took home the prize. Yokohama, another Hayashi game, was a finalist in the category in 2017.

The 2026 multiplayer nominees also included The Druids of Edora, Nippon: Zaibatsu, Recall, Sanctuary and World Order.

Fate of the Fellowship, meanwhile, won the award for Best Solo Game. Matt Leacock's design beat Ace of Spades, Hercules and the 12 Labors and Vantage. It was Leacock's first International Gamers Awards victory, following his first nomination for Pandemic in 2008.

In the two-player category, Duel for Cardia won the 2026 award. The game by Faouzi Boughida and Mathieu Rivero finished ahead of titles including Moytura, Star Wars: Battle of Hoth, Tag Team, The White Castle Duel and Vantage.
